1. What are the hours of operation at the Transfer Station in International Falls ?

Monday – Friday  9am to 4pm

3. What can I put in the recycle trailers?

Recyclables accepted in the trailers are office and newspaper, #1 and #2 plastics, tin and aluminum cans. Plastic bags are not allowed in the trailers so PLEASE empty your bags and place them in the trash. Cardboard is NOT accepted in the recycle trailers.

4. Where do I get a building permit?

If you live within city limits of a town in Koochiching County you need to see your city office. If you live outside city limits you would come to our office located on the first floor of the courthouse. For zoning and permit questions you can contact Steve Blair at 283-1158.

5. What can I do with my hazardous waste?

The county provides two hazardous waste collections annually. Residential hazardous waste is collected free of charge at the spring and fall collection. We also commercial hazardous waste by appointment during our fall collection. The county hires WLSSD to provide these collections. Hazardous waste can be taken to their facility in Duluth during their business hours. Please check out their website for more information http://www.wlssd.com/.

1. How do I get a blue E911 sign?

Please contact GIS Services within the IS Unit by calling 218-283-1172. The blue E911 address sign markers were initially provided to all residential parcels in the county in 2008 as part of an E911 signing project. An ordinance was also passed in 2008 requiring that property owners must apply and pay for the assignment of an E911 for any new improvements on their parcel. The application can be found on this website by clicking the link below. The 2015 fee schedule has set the fee at $100.
