[ARCHIVED] Spring Road Limit Restrictions

Notice from Koochiching County Highway Dept and Land & Forestry Dept

Given the weather forecast for the upcoming 7 days, Koochiching County is giving careful consideration to implementation of spring load restrictions.

However, and in deference to ongoing seasonal logging, trucking and construction activities, we are considering postponing implementation of spring load restrictions, and associated road postings, if we can get voluntary cooperation from truck drivers, loggers, contractors, utility companies, for the “Special Request” listed below.

Special Request from Koochiching County:

For the time period of Thursday 2/16 through Tuesday 2/21, we are asking that trucks and large equipment refrain from using county roads between the hours of 10 am to 10 pm.

It is our assumption that truck damage to county roads will be minimized if trucks use the county roads in the late evening and early morning, when sunshine is not present.

We are counting on evening/overnight temperatures below 32^ during this time period.

For nights that temperatures do not fall below 32^F, we are asking trucks to avoid use of county roads during day and night.

We are especially concerned about the forecast for Monday 2/20, which calls for rain and warm temperatures.

If the weather on Monday 2/20 is as predicted, with warm temperatures and rain, we are asking trucks to avoid use of county roads during day and night.

If we don’t receive voluntary cooperation during this 6 day time period, we will implement spring load restrictions and road postings.

Please share this message with all truck drivers, loggers and construction crews with whom you are affiliated.

If you have any questions please call the following County Dept Reps: Brad Qualley at 324 2957, Joe Sutherland at 283 1186, Trent Nicholson at 283 1187, or Nathan Heibel at 283 1126.
